Absence

All schools have targets to keep attendance as high as possible and we cannot stress highly enough how important it is to bring your child to school.

If your child is absent through illness, please telephone school before 9:00am on each day of absence on 0161 624 9829. Alternatively send us an email to info@st-matthews.oldham.sch.uk. You can now also submit your child's absence via the school app. If no contact is made, school has a responsibility to determine the safety/wellbeing of your child so a member of staff will conduct a home visit.

Medical and dental appointments should be arranged for out-of-school hours, if at all possible.  On occasions where appointments must be kept during school hours, children will only be allowed to leave school providing he/she is collected by a parent or a person authorised by the parent. It would be helpful if parents inform school, beforehand, of the appointment, showing a copy of the appointment letter.  Word of mouth by the child is insufficient and the child will not be allowed to leave school.

As of September 2013 and due to changes in the law, The Governing Body of St Matthew's has agreed that requests for holidays in term time will no longer be authorised.
