The Sheffield REAL (Raising Early Achievement in Literacy) Project is the largest preschool literacy intervention study in the UK. It is designed to think about ways in which families can help children’s early literacy development. The project began in 1995 in Sheffield, and brought together the University, the local education authority and many schools to promote family literacy work with parents of pre-school children.
Here at St. Matthew’s we have been taking part in the REAL project and have worked with families in their homes and at school to help equip parents with skills and tools to help support their child’s early literacy skills.
Families enjoyed making play dough together in their home with Mrs Ferreira! They then brought it to school for a Dough Disco! Parents learned the benefits of playing with play dough together and how this impacts on early literacy development.
