Sports Blog: WB 17th September 2018

Last week we had a very exciting delivery from the Football Foundation and Premier League Stars. We applied for some playground sports equipment and it arrived last week. We now have extra resources to play with at lunchtimes – bean bags, hoops, pop up nets, footballs, dice, alphabet and number discs to use for lots of different games and even some extra bibs. We are really looking forward to using this equipment at lunchtimes to get the children more active.

Thank you for the huge response we have had regarding after school clubs. We have been inundated with letters! In fact, my pigeon hole is a bit like the Magic Porridge Pot – every time I empty it, more letters appear!! Seriously though, thank you so much for being so keen to engage in the clubs we have on offer. It’s great to see so many children wanting to take part in clubs. We are hoping to be able to offer some new clubs each half term, so please look out for details at the end of this half term.

Last week, we had a visit from our Premier League officer at Oldham Athletic. We have finalised details for some work we are doing together in January. This will involve working together in PE lessons and also setting up an after school club.

We also have our first competition on Saturday. Some of our children will be taking part in the first cross country competition of the year. Good luck to the runners.

Welcome back after the summer holidays. I hope you all had a relaxing break and managed to make the most of the lovely weather at the start of the holidays to get out and about doing some physical activity.

In the last week of the summer term, we were delighted to be notified that we had gained out Active Mark Gold award in recognition of the sports provision provided at St Matthew’s.

Autumn Term has already been a busy one (even though we are only in our 2nd week) and looks like it will be very busy with lots of different activities, clubs and events. This half term, we are able to offer a number of different sporting activities for children in the juniors and infants. We will be offering some different clubs after half term, so keep an eye out for further information at the end of this half term.

The sporting fixtures have started to come thick and fast, with our first cross country meeting on 22nd September.

I am looking forward to another successful and busy year and hope the children will enjoy taking part in the range of opportunities on offer.
