Half-termly Class Newsletter

Class: 1MB and 1FB

Date: March 2020

General Information / Upcoming Events

Welcome back! We hope everybody had a lovely half-term break. During this half term we have some important dates: World Book Day on the 5th of March, Mother’s Day on Sunday 22nd March and we also have Easter approaching, with Good Friday on the 10th April and Easter Sunday 12th April.  This half term we are also hoping to go on a spring walk, weather dependent!

PE will be taught on Wednesdays by Mr McGuiness.

Please ensure that your child does wear any jewellery on this day of the week for health and safety reasons.

Please note that long hair must be tied back with a bobble

Thank you for your support with this.

PE kits should be in school at the beginning of this week and ideally kept in school for the full half term.

Reading Books

Children’s reading routines i.e. guided reading/individual reading will be the same as stated on the last newsletter.

Can we ask that you encourage your child not to change their individual home reading books too frequently as we would like the children to build up their fluency skills when re-reading a text (this is one of the objectives for year 1 children).

Curriculum – What will children be learning this half term?

In English we will be looking at:

Performance poetry – the children will learn and perform a poem ‘Countdown’ by Eric Finney adding actions to match the words.

How can parents help?

We are always grateful for your support and involvement throughout the year. Helping your child with their homework weekly will be much appreciated as the homework set is there to embed the concepts we have learnt throughout the week. We ask that you read with your child at home as frequently as possible and make brief comments in their reading record book to indicate that the book has been read.

We would also request that you ask your child frequently to practise reading the tricky word sets on the slip stuck in the front of their reading record book.
