General Information / Upcoming Events

Welcome back! We hope everybody had a lovely Christmas and a fantastic New Year. We are looking forward to many exciting learning opportunities during the next half term.

PE will be taught on Wednesdays.

Jewellery cannot be not worn on this day of the week due to health and safety reasons.

Please note that long hair must be tied back with a bobble and earrings must not be worn.  Thank you for your support with this.

Please could you ensure your child has their full PE kit in school. We recommend that they keep it in school for the full half term.

Reading Books

Children will have an individual reading book and record book that will come home every day.

If your child has read their book, they can place it in the basket in the classroom and it will be changed.

We do ask that your child does not change their reading book too frequently as one of the Year 1 objectives is to build up reading fluency by re-reading texts.

Curriculum – What will children be learning this half term?

Our topic this term is ‘Toys’ and the children will be looking at and using different texts linked to this theme. One of the stories we will be focusing on is ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey. The children will continue to develop their vocabulary and writing skills by orally composing sentences before writing them down. Our grammar focusses will be; to use capital letters for names of people, places, days of the week and the personal pronoun ‘I’; to join words and sentences using ‘and’; to begin to add prefixes and suffixes to some root words.

How can parents help?

We are always grateful for your support and involvement throughout the year. Helping your child with their homework weekly will be much appreciated as the homework set is there to embed the concepts we have learnt throughout the week. We ask that you read with your child at home as frequently as possible and make brief comments in their reading record book to indicate that the book has been read. We would also request that you ask your child frequently to practise reading the tricky word sets on the slip stuck in the front of their reading record book.
