Class: 3LB & 3MW

PE – Swimming

This year, Year 3 children will swim for half of the year, rather than the full year, but for longer lessons (1 hour instead of half an hour). 3KH have now finished swimming as of February half term and 3MW have started from February half term until the end of the year.

Children will need a swimming bag with a towel and trunks (boys) or a swimming costume (girls). Please note that long hair must be tied back with a bobble and jewellery must not be worn.  Children with long hair also require a swimming hat. Please practise using this with your child. Goggles are not allowed. Thank you for your support with this.


PE - Lessons

3KH - will have PE on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.


3MW will be having their swimming lessons on Tuesday afternoons and PE Thursday mornings.  


We would be very grateful if jewellery is not worn on swimming and PE days due to health and safety reasons.


Please could you ensure your child has their full PE kit in school when they have PE. We recommend that they keep it in school for the full half term.


If you have any questions or concerns about swimming or PE, please come and speak to us; we will be happy to help!

Reading Books

Home reading books will be changed on a weekly basis, either by a member of staff or by the child themselves.

Please encourage your child to let us know when they have finished their book so they can change it before our library day if needs be.


It would benefit your child immeasurably if you could read with or to them on a daily basis. Please ask for any support with questioning.

Money and Statistics

Missing number problems involving multiplication and division, Add/subtract amounts of money to give change , Interpret and present data using bar charts, pictograms and tables


Light and Shadow

Reflections, how shadows are formed, how/why shadows change  and dangers of the sun 


Easter – Joy and Sadness - Palm Sunday, Events of Holy Week, Comparison of different accounts of Easter morning


Privacy / Raising Concerns

Acceptable / unacceptable physical contact Personal boundaries Secrets / When it is right to break a confidence Recognise peoples’ feelings See, respect, constructively challenge different points of view


Coding Design 

Write a program to achieve a specific goal Simulate a physical system. Use repetition commands. Introduce ‘if’ statements. Debug a program. Introduce variables.


The Ancient Egyptians - To locate ancient Egypt in time and space. Tutankhamen – what we can learn from artefacts. Egyptian tombs, pyramids and burial sites.



Theory of music/language. Note names. Notes. History of pieces/genres. Compose/play and perform (small groups) History of the Glockenspiel.


Adverbs of manner,  Asking politely,  Creating sentences with masculine and feminine , nouns,  Punctuation.

How can parents help?

  • Daily reading.
  • Accessing the websites listed below.
  • Providing a quiet area for homework.
  • Regular visits to the library. Giving children the opportunity to select their own books encourages a love of reading and allows them to explore their own interests.
  • Practising counting in 3’s, 4’s and 8’s and learning these times tables and related division facts.
  • Counting money, paying for items in shops, working out change, making the same amount with different coins.
  • Practising telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. This will be particularly important later in the year when we work on time.
