Welcome to 4MB Class

Year 4 have had a very busy half term!

In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of place value and working on their addition and subtraction strategies.  They particularly enjoyed solving Roman Numerals jigsaw puzzles, working with a partner.  By doing this, the children had the opportunity to work with and developing their understanding of Roman Numerals to 100.

In English, we read Ted Hughes ‘The Iron Man’ and much of our work was based around this.  The children wrote diary entries where they pretended to be a character in the story.  They also created their own ‘strange’ creatures inspired by the ‘space, bat, angel’ creature from the Iron Man.  The children then created non-chronological reports all about their creatures.

In Art, the children have been working on their sketching techniques.  They have studied the work of Chas Jacobs and created work inspired by him.  They have also had the chance to sketch St Matthew’s church using the techniques that have been taught.

In History, we have learnt about life in Britain before the Romans.  The children have learnt what it would have been like to live in a Celtic village and the types of jobs the villagers would have had.  The children are looking forward to the trip to Castleshaw to find out even more about the Romans.

We’ve also been very lucky to have extra PE sessions with the Manchester City coaches this half term.
