Anxiety and Self-Esteem

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is what we feel when we are worried, tense or afraid – particularly about things that are about to happen, or which we think could happen in the future. We all have our own fears and worries. Help your child understand their feelings, and what they can do to manage them.

Resources to help your child manage their worries or feelings:

Build Sound Minds is a campaign for improving young people's emotional wellbeing. This supports children and young people providing practical and emotional care.

YoungMinds support children and young people with their mental health. Providing practical support and guidance .

Helpline for young people who suffer from panic attacks, OCD, phobias, and other related anxiety disorders (0330 606 1174).

What is Self-Esteem?

Self-Esteem is based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves, which can sometimes feel really difficult to change. Factors that can affect self-esteem include being bullied, mental health problems, lack of confidence, feeling lonely and isolated.

Everyone has times where they feel good about themselves - and times when they feel less good. Help your child build strong self-esteem.
